Before you install

What you need for ER Mario

Games you own

  • Elden Ring on Steam. No specific game version is stated.
  • Your own Super Mario 64 ROM (US version); Mario's model and sounds come from it. We don't provide or link ROMs.

Mod tools

  • The me3 mod loader.

Play rules

  • Offline only. me3 starts the game offline with anti-cheat off, using a separate save file.
  • It checks GitHub for updates at launch and every five minutes, but never installs them itself.

Not sure your setup matches? Where to start walks through the checks in order.

Under the hood

How ER Mario connects the two games

Character runtime Elden Ring collision feeds Rust DLL + libsm64, which drives Mario from your ROM. Elden Ring collision Rust DLL + libsm64 Mario from your ROM → →
Character runtime. A Rust DLL loaded by me3 runs Mario with libsm64, which reproduces Super Mario 64's physics, on Elden Ring's live collision. Your own character follows Mario, so doors, menus and saves still work.

How game mashups work compares this approach with the other two used in the catalog.

Known limits before you install

Creator's status: “Work in progress.” The creator also says: “Never play this mod online.”

  • Some elevators can be clipped through.
  • Cutscenes show a crumpled Mario.
  • Large bosses can behave erratically after a throw, so the mod stops their ragdolls early.
  • Mario's shadow can flicker or vanish at some camera angles.
